Design Notes for Low-Cost Mosquito Control Devices for Malaria Prevention

Hello All - This posting looks at designing "Low-Cost Mosquito Control Devices". Some topics included are mosquito controls and bed-nets, maybe in some formats you might not have thought of before. Some of these topics might be helpful in providing basic survival needs and some others might be made into products to sell. Good Luck!

FYI - As a start, how about these old Mosquito Control Devices patents that have expired due to age (generally more than 20 years old from the filing date). Expired patents are free to use by anyone.

So what can you do with all this information? Here's some suggestions.
+ You could make and sell the device described in the expired patent. Please note that just because something is patented or written, it might not work all that well or might not be safe in today's standards. Use your own judgment, or seek help, to stay safe and out of trouble.
+ You could "translate" the expired patent into easy-to-understand instructions for others to make the device. These instructions could use easy-to-find materials, like trees, plants, rocks, people, scrap materials, etc.
+ You could recruit the inventors or authors to help you, since they are experts in their field. Some of the inventors of older patents might be retired now and might be looking for something to do.
+ Existing manufacturers of Mosquito Control Devices could use this information to make their already fine products even better, more efficient, or less expensive.
+ Build on the work of others. Maybe,
use patent images instead of starting with a blank sheet of paper. Computer model other's designs and make the designs better or cheaper or simpler. You don't have to "reinvent the wheel" . Design around active patents.
+ You could use the information to brainstorm new ideas.

Design Notes for Using Patent Images

Hello All - This posting looks at using the images from patents to begin your design work. By doing this you might save time. Plus, you can do computer modeling to see how devices might work. An example might be taking the images from this old TREADLE-PUMP patent and importing them into Google SketchUp. With other software applications, I think the concept could be useful for mechanical, electrical, fluid flow, thermal and many others areas of engineering and design. I have not tried this concept due to limitations in resources and knowledge. Copying/Pasting patent images does work, however, in simple applications such as this blog. I'm hoping you can get the concept to work and tell the world about it! Good Luck!

FYI - Here's some information you might find useful in Using Patent Images.

Sources of Patent Images - Usually PDF or TIF, sometimes direct copy/paste.
