Idea for Mailbox Scanner....Mail from home?...

For postal mail stations, how about a mailbox scanner to determine whether a mailbox has mail or not? – and automatically e-mail or call the box holder that they have mail.  These could be similar to those devices used for inventory in grocery stores – only adding the automatic notification feature.  The mail attendant would then just scan the device over the “filling side” of the mailbox to determine whether there is anything in the box and read a barcode on the box identifying the box holder.
Possible Start Building Blocks –
  • Existing concepts for inventory control, automatic phone dialer, grocery store automatic checkout scanners, etc.

  • USPTO Class/Subclasses for "How-To" ideas – 705/401, 232/35, 232/25
