New Hope for Drought Stricken or Arid Areas of the World

Water is a problem and a blessing common to the whole world. It is great when we have just enough. Sometimes, due to various reasons, there just is not enough water though. Then, people begin to panic. 

Some little known techniques might be helpful for those experiencing a drought or live in a chronically dry, arid area. 

One of these is Fog or Dew Collection where a large, mostly vertical, piece of fabric, plastic, etc. collects fog or dew. Collected moisture then flows down to a collecting area. This is sometimes called a "fog fence" or "dew collector". This water is fresh water, though you might still have to treat it to become drinkable. 

Another technique is using a Solar Still where the sun's heat is used to evaporate moisture from moist soil or air. 

Both of these techniques can be made with very low cost using available materials. The information at the end of this article should provide a good basis for further research, discussion, and implementation.

Other parts of the world can lead the way too. There might be great opportunity for innovation, new product development, etc. on a global basis.

Solar Powered Crop Growth Accelerator



Solar Powered Crop Growth Accelerator - Music to Grow Crops By


Imagine if you will, sound emitting devices within a field of agricultural crops. These devices are solar powered and are centrally controlled by a computer at a remote location. The sound emitted from these devices is optimally chosen for the crop being grown. The sound enhances, stimulates, and/or accelerates plant growth with a process not yet known. In addition, these devices repel pests with sounds. 

Does this sound incredible? Well, according to what has been done in the past this is not so far-fetched. The term Electro-Culture has been used to describe this phenomenon. 

I did some Internet searching and found a few people who are doing just that, or working it. Here are the search strings I used:
  • (music OR sound OR audio) (plant OR crop) (growth OR accelerator OR stimulator)
  • (music OR sound OR audio) (plant-growth OR crop-growth)
  • (electro-culture OR electroculture) (plants OR crops) (music OR sound OR audio)
Here is a sampling of what I found:
From what I have read of this topic, it is greatly underused. Perhaps this could be a way to fight global hunger. This research has been going on for a long time and, at times, scoffed by some. Reputable scientists and researchers have proved that this works. In addition, why would someone pay lots of money to get a patent on something that does not work. Patent offices do not issue patents on devices that do not work. 

The only thing I did not find much of was where these devices were solar-powered and/or computer controlled. This seems like a new field of exploration for inventors.

Hello All - This posting looks at designing "Low-Cost Solar Cooling". Some applications could be Refrigerators, Coolers, Air Conditioners, Garments, etc. - all using Solar Cooling in some form.
